Carol Nantongo (born November 17, 1992) is a Ugandan singer, songwriter, recording artist, and teacher. She gained prominence in 2017 with the release of her hit singles "Ontuka" featuring Dr. Hilderman and "Tukigale" featuring popular artist Eddy Yawe.
Carol Nantongo was born in the Central region of Uganda, specifically in the Buganda kingdom. Her parents are Mr. Mugerwa John and Rose Namagembe. She grew up in the suburbs of Namugongo and Kyaliwajjala in Kampala. Despite her father having some financial means, Carol Nantongo claims that he abandoned her when she was young. She and her siblings would sometimes spend the night at her aunt's house. She attended Sunset Primary School in Kireka and later transferred to Kireka Grammar Primary School for her primary education. She then enrolled in Kira Secondary School for her O'level studies but had to quit in senior five due to financial constraints.
Work Experience In addition to her music career, Carol Nantongo teaches hairstyling at the UYDEL institute in Wandegeya.
Carol Nantongo began singing at a young age and joined the church choir in Namugongo. Initially uninterested in pursuing music, she was encouraged by her friends to participate in Rated Next competitions. Although she lacked confidence during her first audition and was chased away, her talent was noticed by Catherine Kusasira during the De New Eagles tryouts at Gold Production. Mesach Semakula, a member of the Golden Band, invited her to join the group, which led to the success of her 2016 hit track "Ontuka" featuring Dr. Hilderman.
Carol Nantongo has been involved in several relationships, including with NTV anchor Dagy Nyce, Dr. Hilderman, gospel musician Levixone, and singer Mathias Walukagga of Kadongo Kamu. However, she clarified that her relationship with Dagy Nyce was purely platonic. After her breakup with Mathias Walukagga, he took back the car and laptop he had bought for her.
As a solo artist, Carol Nantongo earns an annual income of UGX 16 million and has an estimated net worth of UGX 80 million. She is projected to earn over UGX 25 million from her concerts and performances in 2022.
Carol Nantongo has faced controversies during her career. One incident involved her responding harshly to a fan who commented on her weight, while another occurred during a performance in South Africa, where she was cut off stage midway due to her late arrival and lack of sleep. She also mentioned leaving the Golden Band due to group politics and an unhealthy working environment.
