Dre Cali Biography

Dre Cali, born Stephen Andrew Katende on February 23, 1995, is a renowned Ugandan singer and songwriter celebrated for his captivating reggae dancehall music. Hailing from Entebbe in Uganda's central region, he is the eldest of three sons raised in a deeply religious family. Dre Cali is currently a proud member of Ykee Benda's Mpaka Records, one of East Africa's prominent musical labels.

Growing up in the vibrant Wakiso neighborhood of Entebbe, Dre Cali embarked on his educational journey, commencing with his primary education at White Angels Primary School in 2007. He then pursued his O' level qualification at St. Henry's College Kitovu in Masaka, graduating in 2011. Following this, he continued his academic pursuits at Mengo Senior School in Bukesa, completing his secondary education in 2013.

Dre Cali's quest for knowledge led him to Uganda Christian University in Mukono after high school, where he achieved a Bachelor's degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2019.

Despite his initial aspirations of becoming an athlete, Dre Cali discovered his passion for music in 2015. Shortly after embarking on his musical journey, he signed a recording contract with the esteemed Mpaka Records. Demonstrating remarkable versatility, he seamlessly delves into Afro beats, dancehall, R&B, and reggae genres.

Dre Cali rose to prominence in 2019 with the release of his debut track, "Zigi Zaga," a captivating reggae sensation under the Mpaka label. Subsequently, he continued to serenade his fans with a series of hit singles, including "Onanagiza" featuring Lydia Jazmine, "Ebisooka n'ebisembayo," "Efikuba," "Singa Omanyi" featuring Weasel Manizo, and "Akayimba" with Myko Ouma.

Dre Cali's star has shone brightly on the Ugandan music scene, as he has graced numerous events and been recognized with several prestigious nominations and accolades in his homeland.
