George Lubega Timothy, known by his stage name Exodus, was born on June 8, 1984, in Uganda. Raised by a single mother who passed away when he was only 10, Exodus faced adversity and ended up on the streets after being rejected by his polygamous and abusive father. Living in the challenging environment of Kampala, he resorted to unconventional means of survival, including picking pockets and engaging in substance abuse.
In 2001, Exodus decided to turn his life around and, along with a friend, Dan Kimuli, moved to Nakulabye in Kiyaaye. It was there that Kimuli introduced him to Pastor Robert Kayanja's Miracle Centre church, leading to a spiritual transformation. Exodus embraced Christianity, and his newfound faith became the inspiration for his debut single "Once a Ganja Man," which became a significant success, resonating with audiences both within and outside the church.
Exodus became a prominent figure in the church choir and, in 2004, joined the Sauti band, touring the Great Lakes region. He eventually left the band in 2007 and released his breakthrough single "Ganjaman" in 2008. The song garnered widespread acclaim, establishing Exodus as a notable figure in the Ugandan music scene. He followed it up with hits like "Addicted," "I am Walking," and the immensely popular "Igwe."
Despite having only a few songs to his name, Exodus earned numerous accolades, including awards from religious organizations, Buzz Magazine, Groove Awards, and MTV Africa Music Awards. His philanthropic efforts include serving as the Artistic Director and Peace Ambassador for the Irene Gleeson Foundation, which supports over 10,000 ex-child soldiers.
Exodus married Brenda Mwanje, and beyond his musical accomplishments, he continues to contribute to charitable causes. His dedication to making a positive impact on society is evident through initiatives like fundraising concerts for the Irene Gleeson Foundation.
Exodus's journey from the hardships of street life to musical success and philanthropy showcases a testament to resilience, faith, and the transformative power of positive influences in one's life
