Joshua Kaweesa, widely and professionally recognized as Hanta UG, is a multi-talented Ugandan artist with versatile skills in music, songwriting, dance, drama and visual artistry. Born in 2001 in Kampala, Hanta has harbored a profound love for music since his early years, and his journey towards becoming an artist began at a tender age.
Hanta ug's music is a unique blend of traditional African rhythms with contemporary Afrobeats sounds that celebrate the African culture and identity, which sets him apart from many other artists in the genre. His music is characterized by catchy beats, smooth vocals, dynamic compositions and energetic performances, which have helped him build a growing fan base not only in Uganda but also across borders.
Hanta grew up in a family of musical artists, and he was exposed to music from an early age. His parents were singers and performers, so it was only natural for Hanta ug to develop an interest in music. He began singing in church and school, and he quickly realized that music was his passion. In his early teens, Hanta began to experiment with different genres of music, including Afro fusion, Pop, Soul, RnB, reggae, dancehall, and more citing favorite artists such as Bruno Mars, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Mr. Eazi, Alina Baraz, Sabrina Claudio and Azawi as some of his main influences. However, he is commonly classified as an Afrobeat artist, a genre that is rapidly gaining popularity in Uganda and across the African continent.
Hanta ug's big break arrived in early 2021 when he released his single, "Sip Some," featuring fellow youngster, the talented singer and producer Ricky Miles. The track became an instant sensation in Uganda during the Covid-19 pandemic. The song was produced by Ugandan maestro Ricky Miles, and it effectively showcased Hanta ug's unique blend of traditional rhythms and modern beats. Since then, Hanta has released several other successful singles, including "Man Of War", “No Talking”, “Tambula”, "One Day" and many others, which have helped to cement his status as one of Uganda's most promising artists. His compositions are celebrated for their catchy melodies, heartfelt lyrics, and upbeat tempo.
Hanta ug's success has not gone unnoticed in the music industry, as he has been recognized for working with several professionals in the music industry of Uganda and across the African continent. In the year 2023, Hanta ug’s craft was recognized on numerous international albums and music charts including “Anything But Love,” a ten-song album by famous artist, deejay and producer, Ash, from Mauritius. Hanta ug featured on this compilation with two melodious songs titled “Psycho” and “Sweet Body,” further solidifying his presence on the global stage.
Despite his remarkable achievements, Hanta remains humble and dedicated to perfecting his craft. He continues to work hard on new music, and he is constantly seeking to improve his skills as a musician and performer. His enduring gratitude to his fans is evident in his active presence on social media, where he regularly interacts with them, expressing his appreciation for their support and inspiring them to follow their own dreams.
