Julie Birungi, born on February 27, 1978, is a Ugandan-Canadian gospel singer renowned in East Africa for hits like "Nkulembera" and "Bamuyita Yesu." She received awards for best female gospel song and best religious song in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Notable achievements include winning the Song of the Year at the Olive Gospel Music Awards in 2012 and the Female Artist of the Year at the VIGA Awards in 2016. Julie, formerly married to Pastor Steven Mutesaira, has three children, two of whom won East Africa's Got Talent in 2019. After divorcing in 2016, she moved to Canada and publicly embraced her identity as a lesbian in 2020, marrying her wife Jean the same year. Julie recorded her debut single, "Nakwagala," in 2004.
