Biography

Maureen Nantume, a talented Ugandan female musician, was born on April 18, 1984. Her journey to becoming a successful artist is a testament to her resilience and unwavering determination. Born to Robinah Nakitende, an onion vendor, Nantume's early life was marked by financial struggles, as her mother worked tirelessly to support her and her two siblings. Tragedy struck when her mother passed away in 1996, leaving the young Nantume to face an uncertain future.

Her mother's death disrupted her education and forced her to find accommodation and employment. With no knowledge of her father's identity, Nantume found herself alone and without many options. Her uncle initially promised to help but later abandoned her. In her quest for survival, she took on a job as a housemaid in Namasuba, where she earned a monthly salary of Shs15,000. Despite her challenging circumstances, Nantume clung to her dream of becoming a renowned singer.

Her opportunity came when she applied and joined the Eagles Production as a backup musician and rising vocalist. Spending time with the band and performing at various events and occasions across Uganda, Maureen Nantume gradually transformed into a prominent artist. Eagles Production gained recognition both in Uganda and worldwide.

In 2007, Nantume released her single "Siri Ndogoyi," which marked the beginning of her rise to fame. It was her subsequent release, "Abakozi Basafari," that truly catapulted her into the limelight. Since then, Maureen Nantume has earned respect and acclaim from the Ugandan music industry, the media, and audiences worldwide.

Her education had been tumultuous due to financial constraints, with Nantume attending various schools for different classes. She completed her Primary Leaving Exams at Katale Busawula after earlier stints at Masaka Kiwangala. However, due to ongoing financial challenges, she had to drop out of school during Senior Three in 2002 while studying at Agro-Links in Namasuba.

Today, Maureen Nantume is a renowned artist known for her motivational and counseling music. She has organized and successfully held numerous concerts, including "Kunfubutula Concert" in 2009, "Kiyungu Concert" in 2012, "Kalaala Concert" in 2014, "Nkuze Concert" in 2016, and "Ndimuzadde Concert" in 2019. She has also participated in various events and concerts worldwide, from London to Dubai, South Africa, Turkey, the United States of America, Sweden, Egypt, and many more.

In addition to her performances, Maureen Nantume has been invited to grace various functions, including government events, corporate company parties, weddings, introduction ceremonies, graduation parties, and more, both in Uganda and abroad.

Her talent and hard work have earned her several accolades, including:

Nantume has also collaborated with fellow musicians, contributing to hits like "Kisaaganda" by Chris Evans ft. Maureen Nantume and "Talemwa" by Pastor Wilson Bugembe & Maureen Nantume.

Today, Maureen Nantume stands as a pillar in Uganda's music industry, earning recognition and respect as one of the most prominent female musicians in the country.
