Sheebah Karungi, born on November 11, 1989, is a multi-talented Ugandan artist, known for her prowess in music, dance, acting, and activism. She first entered the entertainment industry as an actress, making her debut in the film "Queen of Katwe" where she portrayed the character of Shakira. However, her true passion lay in music, and she gained widespread recognition with the release of her hit single "Ice Cream."
Born and raised in Kawempe, a division of Kampala district, Uganda, Sheebah had a humble upbringing, being raised by a single mother. She completed her basic education at Kawempe Muslim Primary School but dropped out of school during her senior two years at Midland High School. At the age of 15, she joined a dance group called Stingers, performing to earn money. Later, she became a member of the Obsessions Music Group in 2006, where her interest in music was sparked.
In 2010, Sheebah embarked on her solo career as a musician. Her first official single, "Kunyenyenza," produced by Washington with writing credits from Cindy, marked the beginning of her musical journey. She continued to release notable songs such as "Bulikyekola" featuring KS Alpha and Prince Fahim, "Baliwa" featuring Coco Finger, and "Automatic" written by Sizzaman, which became a turning point in her solo career. However, it was the release of "Ice Cream" that propelled her to new heights of success, receiving extensive airplay and positive reviews. Sheebah followed up with another hit single titled "Twesana."
In 2014, Sheebah released her debut project, the five-track EP titled "Ice Cream." The EP achieved commercial success and earned her consecutive HiPipo Music Awards for Best Female Artist from 2015 to 2018. She also won the Artist of the Year award in 2017, 2018, and 2019 at the HiPipo Music Awards.
Apart from her music career, Sheebah is a businesswoman and owns several ventures in Kampala, including The Red Bar, Red Events (co-owned with dancer Cathy Patra), and a hair extension business called Sheebah by Natna. She has also been involved in feminist activism and has used her platform to speak out against sexual harassment.
Sheebah's talent and hard work have earned her numerous awards and nominations throughout her career. She continues to collaborate with renowned artists and expand her musical horizons. Her discography includes notable singles such as "Nkwatako," "Nakyuka," "Enyanda," and "Tevunya." She has also released studio albums like "Nkwatako" (2016), "Karma Queen" (2017), and "Samali" (2021).
