Sweet Kid, whose real name is Moses Sserwada, is a popular singer known for his lady-like voice. He gained recognition in Uganda with his hit track "Mama Brenda." Born on September 13, 1982, in Kawempe to Sulaiman Mulinyira and Robinah Nasaka, he is the third of nine siblings.
Sweet Kid's musical journey began in the school choir at Malcolm X Primary School, where he used to mime Mariah Carey songs. He was inspired by Mariah Carey and Brandy, considering them the best musicians in the world. He attended Malcolm X Primary and later Alliance Modern School for his secondary education from 1997 to 2002.
In 1998, when Sweet Kid was in senior two, he performed at Ecstasy Club in Kireka alongside a friend. During the performance, the crowd started calling him a "sweet kid" due to his talent and stage presence. From that moment, he adopted the name Sweet Kid as his stage name.
Sweet Kid's talent in music flourished, and he started composing songs. He sought guidance from Mariam Ndagire, a fellow musician, who helped him refine his skills. Sweet Kid holds Ndagire in high regard and considers her his mentor, along with Titan Takuba.
Under Ndagire's guidance, Sweet Kid became a rising star in Uganda's music scene. He released his first album, "Tobesiga," in 2004, featuring tracks like "Maama Brenda" and "Kankutwale." The latter song won him the Pearl of Africa Music Award that year. "Maama Brenda" became a massive hit, played regularly on FM radio stations and loved by many Ugandans. However, the song caused a rift between Sweet Kid and his girlfriend at the time, as she believed he was singing about another girl named Brenda.
Despite the heartbreak, Sweet Kid found happiness again with a new girlfriend, whose name he preferred not to disclose. Alongside his music career, he worked as an MC at Club Silk, a popular nightclub in Kampala, hosting reggae and ragga music shows on Tuesdays and Fridays.
While pursuing his passion for music, Sweet Kid also had aspirations in journalism. He enrolled in the United Media Consultants and Trainers institute to study for a diploma. However, he temporarily suspended his studies to focus on music, with plans to resume later.
Sweet Kid acknowledged the potential of the music industry in Uganda for generating income. He believed that talent development and promotion were vital for improving the financial prospects of Ugandan musicians. He expressed a desire for the government to invest in nurturing talents, citing the example of the United States, where talents contribute significantly to the country's earnings.
Looking ahead, Sweet Kid envisioned a career in journalism once he retired from music. Regardless of his future endeavors, he intended to maintain the name Sweet Kid as his brand.
Grateful for his success as an artist, music producer, songwriter, parent, and businessman, Sweet Kid credited God/Allah for blessing him in various aspects of his life.
