In a recent interview, media personality Sandra Nabiyiki spoke out against Baba TV, a broadcasting station based in Jinja. Nabiyiki, who worked as a news editor at Baba TV for several months, alleged that the station underpaid its employees and subjected them to poor working conditions.
Nabiyiki claimed that she was promised a salary of Ugx 500K when she joined Baba TV, but she only received Ugx 200K in her first month. She said that the low pay made it difficult for her to meet her financial obligations and that she was often forced to work overtime without additional compensation.
Nabiyiki also alleged that Baba TV had poor working conditions. She said that the station was dirty and cluttered, and that there was no air conditioning or fans in the office. She said that the long hours and poor working conditions took a toll on her health.
Nabiyiki's allegations come at a time when the media industry in Uganda is facing a number of challenges, including low pay, poor working conditions, and a lack of job security. Nabiyiki's story is a reminder of the challenges that many media workers face in Uganda, and it calls for better working conditions and fair pay for all media workers.
Nabiyiki has since left Baba TV and is now working at Sanyuka TV, where she says she is treated fairly and compensated well. She hopes that her story will inspire other media workers to speak out against unfair treatment and to demand better working conditions.
